What it is
Hi-Intelligent Minds is an annual, two-week summer school run jointly by ISMLL and SSE, funded by the DAAD programme “Academic Horizons – Attracting Global Minds” with support from the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space. After a foundations week you work in a small team on a real machine-learning project, mentored by ISMLL and SSE researchers, and present it at a closing mini-symposium.
What you'll learn
- Current AI research areas — e.g. recommendation systems, time-series analysis, LLMs
- Maths for ML and AI foundations
- Software engineering for and with AI systems — MLOps and trustworthy AI
Who should apply
Advanced Bachelor's students in computer science, statistics, mathematics, physics and related fields, with solid Python and maths. Taught in English; open to applicants worldwide. No prior research required — we select for potential and motivation. Application deadline: January 31, 2027.
Funding
Tuition — TBA. The DAAD funds full support (travel, accommodation, meals) for ~20–25 students — this funding is exclusive to applicants from South America and Eastern Europe (the Balkans / South-East Europe). Funded by the DAAD and the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space.

Practical information — getting here
- Via Hannover Airport (closest, ~30 km): S-Bahn (S5) to Hannover Hbf (~13 min), then a regional train to Hildesheim Hbf (~25–30 min). About an hour door to door.
- Via Frankfurt Airport: Direct long-distance (ICE) train from the airport's own Fernbahnhof to Hildesheim Hbf — no need to go into the city — roughly 2.5–3.5 hours.
- Via Hamburg Airport: S-Bahn to Hamburg Hbf, then an ICE/IC via Hannover to Hildesheim Hbf, roughly 2.5–3 hours.
- Via Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER): Regional train to Berlin Hbf (~25 min), then a direct Intercity to Hildesheim Hbf, roughly 2–2.5 hours total.

Schedule
Two weeks: a foundations week (maths for ML/AI, software-engineering essentials), then a project week working in a small team on a real machine-learning problem, closing with a mini-symposium where you present your results. The detailed day-by-day schedule will be published closer to the date.
